Enter Newgy's Racket-Paddle-Bat Contest to Win Your Free Paddles

When it comes to table tennis (AKA ping pong), rackets, paddles, or bats are really just the same things (we’ll use them interchangeably in this newsletter). But now you can win 2 free Applause paddles from Newgy if you are one of the first ten entrants to email us the correct answer to our contest question below. We did some search engine analysis using a well respected measurement tool that ranks the popularity of the following “keywords” used in searches worldwide. (note that the search estimates are from July 2005). Web surfers are most likely to type the following six phrases into a search engine to find out more about rackets or paddles or bats:

    Ping pong paddle(s),

    Ping pong racket(s),

    Ping pong bat(s),

    Table tennis bat(s),

    Table tennis paddle(s),

    Table tennis racket(s).

Also note that other keyword iterations of the phrases above are not included in the estimates.

Ah, but in what rank order do people type these into their favorite search engines? If you are one of the first ten entrants to correctly rank the six phrases above from 1 (most searches) to 6 (least searches), you’ll win 2 Applause paddles from Newgy Industries. Send us an email with your answer and your contact information. And, if you’re a winner, we’ll send your free paddles to you. A hint: the top ranked keyword above is 30 times more likely to be typed into a search engine than the 6th ranked keyword. One entry per person, only, please.

And read below for another way to receive 2 FREE Applause paddles from Newgy Industries. The Applause paddle excels at touch and control and is perfect for all-round recreational play. Its elastic inverted topsheet affords good spin for learning and executing high spin shots like loops and serves. The 1.5mm sponge rubber is designed for good speed and high control.

    A Few Racket Facts

    • All rackets must be covered with a rubber surface. Plain wood and sandpaper rackets can not be used in official competition.
    • All rackets, by ITTF rules, must have one red and one black side.
    • Players may use different rubber on their Forehand and Backhand sides.
    • Long-Pips and Anti Spin Rubbers should be used on one side of the racket only.
    • The thicker the sponge layer, the greater the speed of the rubber.
    • Carbon/Arylate Blades offer the largest sweet spot and the most accuracy of any racket.

Does An Expensive Racket Really Make You A Better Player?

High priced equipment will not make you a better player. On the other hand, equipment that is too fast and/or "spinny" can definitely hinder your development. Skill, in almost all cases, trumps equipment. If you're not committed to serious practice (doing drills, improving fitness, etc.) and/or getting coached, any racket over $60 or so (rubber and blade) is not recommended. Do, however, keep your rubber clean and change it whenever it is worn. If you are committed to serious practice, then spending your money on better equipment will be worthwhile because you will learn to use strokes that take advantage of the rubber's characteristics.

Guidelines For Choosing A Pro-Line Racket

Most Pro-Line Rackets come unassembled to allow the serious player to select the perfect match of blade, handle and rubber for his/her game, There are a number of good racket manufacturers, but because Butterfly is the most widely distributed and available brand we recommend that you take a look at their web site. Note that all table tennis racket manufacturers have similar types of rubbers and blades. See http: //www.butterflyonline.com/help.htm If you are interested in a Professional quality custom made racket that that will help you get the most out of your game, check out the comprehensive list of FAQ’s about rackets at http:/ /www.butterflyonline.com/faq.asp.
